Searching For Truth: A Blog by Sherri Smith

One of my deepest pleasures is being in nature. Full on. To feel the winds on my face, to hear it dance through the leaves of the trees, to smell the lush vegetation, to spring across a forest floor with the incredible moss carpets and pine needles. To hear the rhythm of the waves licking the shores and pulling away again, to see the perfect magnificence of so many species thriving together within a community. To listen to the crackle of the fire and smell the aromatic pleasures from the woods being consumed.

A few years back I was in Northern Arizona and was very intrigued with the culture and teachings of the Hopi tradition. During that time I was gifted a beautiful poem that they foresaw as the changes coming. There is no softer way to say it than that time has come now. It is a time for the deepest self care, a time for being grounded, embracing the quiet, committing to support your community, and a time to trust that something greater than ourselves is there to support us. It is in opening the door to that greater power that has no boundaries and is available to us all. It is a time of creative new ideas that serve the greater whole, including the earth. There is an immense need for each of us to begin to give back, to care for and to trust…. all of this starting within ourselves and the earth we walk upon and survive upon.

The time is now. It’s a new year and the present systems we exist in are broken. On a positive note that means immense opportunity for something greater to be realized. The Hopi poem I referred to earlier has this one poignant piece that I hold close:

“There is a river flowing now very fast, It is so great and swift. That there are those who will be afraid, They will try to hold onto the shore. They will feel they are being pulled apart, And will suffer greatly.

Understand that the river knows its destination, The elders say we must let go of the shore. Push off into the middle of the river, Keep our eyes open and our heads above water.

And I say; see who is in there with you, Hold fast to them and celebrate!”

The waters of change will bring us to our destination if we only stop the strife, struggles and resistance. Let go of the shore and allow this year to unfold. Hold onto your community, love yourself and witness the magic.
