Searching For Truth: A Blog by Sherri Smith

The Health Benefits of Cinnamon

Cinnamon was once more valuable than gold, and is gaining popularity again in the West for its astonishing healing qualities. It is important to note that there are 2 varieties of cinnamon; Cassia which is most commonly found in supermarkets, and Ceylon which is also called ‘true’ cinnamon. Both have health benefits but Cassia may cause problems due to the compound ‘coumarin’ which is believed to be harmful in large doses.

  • reduces fasting blood sugar levels by 29%

  • helps to naturally raise the HDL levels and reduce the LDL levels

  • excellent anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties

  • clears mucus and improves circulation within the lungs

  • improves the neuron action within the body which assists in combating disease such as Parkinsons and Alzheimers

  • cinnamon extract slows the growth of cancer cells and induces cancerous cell death

  • consumption of cinnamon can reduce both systemic and specific inflammation. This is particularily important as evidence demonstrates that the majority of disease manifests first as lack of flow in body (stagnation) created by inflammation

  • can help treat certain types of pain and headaches, as well as arthritis pain and is also known to boost circulation

I have found using a combination of Cinnamon (Ceylon), Cloves and Indonesian Ginger is an excellent way to create a daily tea, coupled with the sweetness of raw honey to give me the nutrients and combative qualities of these powerful spices for my support in healing.
