Essential Oils… some important truths

Searching For Truth: A Blog by Sherri Smith

Above you will see a banner for an essential oil company – Floracopeia – and after the 3rd course completion on the products and applications I am seriously proud to be a distributor of these products. I would like to share some very important truths about the use of essential oils.

The first thing is that they are HIGHLY concentrated forms of the properties of the plants/species they are derived from. To put this into a visual perspective, it takes over 40,000 rose petals to create a 15 ml bottle of rose oil. The less is more principle is very applicable here.

Secondly, it is NEVER suggested that these oils be consumed unless they are in a biocompatible dosage (meaning diluted to an edible/consumable level). There are many adverse action reports online available for viewing and should be researched to be fully understood. Dropping essential oils into water for consumption is being propagated in the market and one of the biggest reports now is the damage caused in the esophageal tissues as a result of this. Go fresh, squeeze a lemon into water instead. Cook with fresh rosemary. Oils are meant to maximize the effect on applications but it is critical you understand the proper way in usage and derive your advice from a credible and reputable source.

The other aspect of consumption is that we should know for certain of how they are sourced. The latest reports are that over 75% of the oils on the market today are either contaminated, adulterated or both. Many of the oils on the market today contain synthetic versions of the plant species or have been sweetened with artificial aromas to appeal to the consumer. Floracopeia has achieved its growth from sustainable practices and does not purchase parcels of land to industrialize the process. These oils are sacred and hold an intelligence of the plant and its environment that cannot be replicated. The amount of sunlight and moonlight, the mineral content of the soil, the state of being of the person(s) harvesting them, the altitude in which they are grown, the amount of wind and moisture these plants receive in their growing cycles and the actual distillation process itself is all critical in understanding in the medicinal value that little bottle holds. Any process involving heat will destroy the life force of the plant medicine so understanding the distillation techniques used is imperative.

Essential oils can be a beautiful addition to your daily rituals in diffusing, it is perhaps the safest practice for most users. Dropping a few drops into your diffuser at bedtime or within your office or home environment to inhale as microbial dosages is a safe, potent and powerful way to create changes within your internal terrain. They can also be added to a carrier oil such as organic sesame, coconut or sunflower to create a topical application for body massage and oilation of the tissues, again, in the correct dosages.

It all returns to the knowing your grower. Floracopeia supports local economies in their production and ensures the oils brought to you are of the highest quality in social, ecological and ethical practices.
