Understanding Integrated Energy Therapy (IET)

Searching For Truth: A Blog by Sherri Smith

There is a growing interest in IET and often clients are curious but do not understand how it works. I would like to offer a broader understanding here as I believe knowledge is power and thereby giving the client greater power to assist in creating that change within.

Science is showing us more and more that our beliefs affect our physiology, as much as 95%! What we think we become. Beyond that, it has been shown that 50% of these beliefs originate in the development of the fetus, which creates the groundwork for our belief system. Beliefs can and do change throughout our lives, based upon our own personal experiences and exposure, but many of the deep rooted and fear based ones become stuck and create obstacles and limitations in our existence.

Everything is energy, including our thoughts and beliefs. We can have up to 21,800 thoughts per day; with each thought, there is a process created in response to that thought within the body. IF the thought is negative, the body’s chemistry changes whereby cortisol is produced in response to the thought or belief. Muscles engage, blood thickens; this is called ‘flight or fight’ mode. The excess cortisol produced creates damage to the subsystems of the body and our adrenals burn out, hormone levels become unbalanced and it weakens our immunity. This creates the environment for disease to manifest and thrive.

IET is a beautiful and gentle approach to clear energy blockages from the cellular memory map and introduce the positive emotion to the integration points within the body. We house specific emotions in defined regions of the body. As an example, the shoulder girdle is where we hold excessive responsibility and burdens (shoulds) based upon our beliefs. When this is long term, the energy blockage moves to the physical level and will impede flow on the circulatory and neurological levels which allows for disease to flourish. On a spiritual level, we lose sight of our dreams and desires.

Typical causes for energy blocks in the shoulders can come from growing up in an environment characterized by disapproval or disagreement with who or what you really are. It can also manifest through sacrificing one’s authentic self and wearing a social mask to gain approval or love (co-dependancy).

It is important to note that obstacles, traumas and challenges that appear in our lives should be viewed as an opportunity for growth. Having this perception keeps us out of negative thoughts, blame and hopelessness. IET is a therapy that will assist you in getting the issues out of your tissues and living from a place of limitless potential.
